Reviews
Officers are very kind and nice. The museum have many models and the exhibits have very highly quality. I love this museum, it’s suitable for kids, absolutely they can learn something there.
Small natural history museum with a fantastic collection and excellent, well-designed displays. Good for adults and children. Lots of accessible drawers and interactive games for the younger ones. Wall text and games in English and Italian.
Fascinating. The majority of animals on display are real mummified. Free access for unipv students.
Good for kids
Highly recommended museum, modern and minimal setup that contrasts pleasantly with the taxidermy and ancient finds, nice games for children along the way. The temporary exhibition on Ameisenhaufen is also very interesting. The Gonzaga hippopotamus is the undisputed protagonist.
A museum full of stuffed animals, fossils and curious and particular animals; it is also an interactive exhibition complete with explanations.
Kosmos, formerly the Natural History Museum of the University of Pavia, founded in 1771 by Lazzaro Spallanzani, among the oldest in Italy, preserves a naturalistic heritage of high scientific and historical value, including almost 400,000 finds divided between the zoology collections, comparative anatomy and paleontology.
Around an initial nucleus, made up mainly of minerals, donated by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, other collections were quickly gathered, the result of purchases and donations. A notable development of the institution with the increase of the collections is due in particular to the zoologists Giuseppe Balsamo Crivelli and Pietro Pavesi, to Leopoldo Maggi, scholar of comparative anatomy, to the geologist Torquato Taramelli and to the botanist Giovanni Antonio Scopoli. Around 1960 the collections they were transferred to the Visconti Castle, with the intention of setting up a museum open to the public, which was never built. In 1995, the restoration of the finds began and their display in temporary exhibitions, awaiting placement in a permanent location, inaugurated with the name of Kosmos on 21 September 2019 at the historic Palazzo Botta Adorno in Pavia.
Wonderful museum in Pavia that absolutely deserves to be visited. I liked how the route was structured and was satisfied with the experience. I also report the kind and helpful welcome.
